Settings
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background color. PNG is lossless, so the quality slider does not apply to it. Re-saving also removes camera metadata such as location.

No. Images are converted by your browser on your own device.
JPG is best for photos. PNG is best for graphics, screenshots and anything that needs transparency. WEBP gives smaller files than both and works in all modern browsers, but some older apps cannot open it.
PNG keeps every pixel. JPG and WEBP are lossy, so a lower quality setting makes smaller files with some loss. A setting between 85 and 95 is nearly indistinguishable from the original.
